Hi, I am looking for faux tortoise binding. LMI used to carry it. I saw some at StewMac, but it is actual celluloid, and frankly I'd like to avoid that. I just want modern plastic. Does anyone know where I can find it. Thanks. G

I recently redid the binding on my Gibson Gospel with this stuff, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C7 ... =UTF8&th=1. I had to back it up with some thinned white binding to get the original thickness.

I've got a Gibson Gospel with deteriorating binding that's to the point of falling off. I don't want to do any finish work on it, its a beautiful color and I don't have the chops to color match it. How will you proceed with finishing the new binding?

I reset the neck too. I had attempted to stablize the binding a couple of years ago with Duco which Chris recommended. It also had the neck to soundhole crack from the pickguard shrinking so I removed it, stablized the crack (it still shows) and reinstalled the pickguard with the 3m stuff. I sprayed the edges with nitro at that time and will respray several coats on the edges before a couple of coats on the whole guitar. Will add add maybe 20% retarder in those last coats. There is quite a web of finish cracks over the whole guitar. It's got maple back and sides so no color match to worry about. I'm thinking about using the Vintage Clear Colorcoat that I got at StewMac instead of the Mohawk I got at LMII. Here's the previous discussion about the guitar, viewtopic.php?f=10137&t=52540.

I've only ever seen tortoise binding in celluloid - I suspect modern plastics aren't well-adapted to making it, as it needs to be translucent.

For small quantities I buy via eBay from China. Local suppliers, if any exist, charge a great deal more!

Axiom is where I was able to source celluloid tortoise binding taller and wider than the most common 1/4” available from multiple sites. I know you preferred plastic, but this was all that I could find in the width needed, and worked quite well. When I last purchased it they were able to cut it down to the height I needed. Hope this is helpful.
